Frequently Asked Questions

  • Depending on the weigh, will depend how much time we suggest to allow.

Our most common weigh option, a tow vehicle and caravan combo weigh, generally takes 2-3 hours.

We will take as long as it takes, to get all green ticks, or as close to as we can! Drive away feeling safe and confident in your setup.

  • Weighbridge scales give you a rough idea, but don’t go into the level of detail that we do with our scales and detailed report.

Some weighbridges will only weigh in increments of 10-50kg (weighbridge dependant), where we weigh within 1kg.

We will provide you with accurate corner weights and axle weights, as well as your individual tow ball weight.

  • Great question! And rest assured, it’s a simple and straightforward process!

When you book an appointment with us, we come to you at a convenient, close to home location. We bring all the equipment needed to accurately weigh your vehicle, trailer, or caravan right where you are.

We’ll guide you through each step, explain what we’re doing, and take the time to answer any questions you have along the way. Once the weighing is complete, we’ll go over your report and results with you in plain English…no confusing jargon, so you know exactly where things stand in terms of compliance and safety.

If anything’s out of balance or over the limit, we’ll offer practical tips and suggestions to help get you sorted as best we can on the spot. We include all changes we do as variations in your report. We’re all about making it easy, stress-free, and as helpful as possible.

As part of our service, we also carry a range of carefully selected products that can help with weight distribution, safety, and convenience. If we spot something that could make your setup safer or more comfortable, we’re happy to show you what we’ve got. No pressure, just helpful options.

  • Short answer, no.

The location of your weigh is determined by a few factors:

    • Surface gradient being as close to flat as possible

    • No rocks or loose gravel, as this can affect the scale sensitivity and accuracy

    • Cemented or bitumised locations are ideal

We want to give you your weights as accurate as we can. Picking the right location is essential!

  • To give you a ‘fully loaded’ report, we request exactly that.

Full tank of fuel in the towing vehicle

    Full of water

Full of food (or as close to as possible)

    Full of clothes

We ask you pack your setup as close to what you ordinarily would to travel.

  • All weights are extremely important, however the easiest to manipulate is your towball weight.

Often a weight that is overlooked is the rear axle weights. These are compliance numbers in themselves set by the manufacturer.

  • A basic breakdown of acronyms:

    • ATM (Aggregate Trailer Mass):
The total weight of the trailer when it’s fully loaded; including water, gear, and everything else. This also includes your towball weight.

    • TARE (Tare Mass):
The empty weight of the trailer, straight from the manufacturer, with nothing loaded.

    • GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass):
The maximum legal weight of your vehicle, including passengers, fuel, and cargo.

    • GCM (Gross Combination Mass):
The maximum combined weight of your tow vehicle and trailer when fully loaded.

    • TBM (Tow Ball Mass):
The amount of weight the trailer puts directly onto the tow ball of your vehicle. We aim to be 9-11% of the trailer’s weight, as guided by major manufacturers for Australian conditions.

    • GTW (Gross Trailer Weight):
The actual weight of the trailer when loaded, same as ATM, but measured on a scale rather than listed.

    • Payload:
The amount of weight you can carry in your vehicle, calculated as:

Vehicle: GVM – TARE = Payload

Caravan: ATM – TARE = Payload

    • Braked Towing Capacity:
The maximum weight your vehicle can towwith a trailer that has its own brakes.

  • We suggest to travel with some water, as we know all too well, you just never know when or where you might need it!

But that’s the beauty of getting your setup weighed with us, is we will weigh you with and without water!

There is no one size fits all answer, as it will depend how you travel, what type of travel you love to do, what you have packed and where your water is situated on your setup.

  • Great towing starts with great balance! To stay safe and compliant, it’s important to load your trailer or caravan with even weight distribution.

Keep it low and centred: Place heavier items over the axle and as low as possible to avoid swaying

Watch your Tow Ball Mass (TBM): Ideally, 9–11% of your trailer’s total weight should be on the tow ball. Too light or too heavy can affect handling

  • First off, don’t stress! We’re here to help, not to judge!

If your setup is over the compliance limits, we’ll walk you through exactly what’s gone over and chat through your options. In many cases, we can help right then and there, whether that means shifting your load, adjusting weight distribution, or offering suggestions to get things sorted safely.

If it’s something that can’t be fixed on the spot, we won’t leave you hanging. We’ll point you in the right direction and give you the details of anyone else you may need to contact, whether it's a local service or another service that can assist.

Our aim is to make the whole process as smooth and supportive as possible, so you can get back on the road feeling confident and compliant.
