Is what you tow, overweight?
Many adventure seekers are gearing up for their next journey. But are you within your compliance limits?
At Toes Up Weigh, we want to educate! Here are some top tips for managing your weights…

Pack lighter
Prioritise essential items and avoid overpacking. Do you really need every tool, just incase? Some items can also have lighter alternatives so it pays to do your research. Consider what you need for your type of travel and take note of your payload!
Distribute your weight evenly
Aim for a balanced distribution throughout your car and what you tow, to prevent overloading specific axles or tyres.
Heavier items are suggested to be packed or stored low and closer to the axle.

Empty holding tanks
You’d be surprised how much your water tanks, grey water, drinking water or even sewage can impact overall weights…especially where they are secured on your van.
Consider how much you need for the type of travel that you love
Why weight matters
When it comes to towing, weight really does matter — not just for compliance, but for your safety and peace of mind.
Knowing the weight of both your tow vehicle and your caravan helps ensure you're not exceeding legal limits, which could lead to fines, insurance issues, or unsafe driving conditions. An overloaded or poorly balanced setup can seriously affect braking, steering, and stability, especially in an emergency.
By understanding your weights, you’ll tow more confidently, protect your vehicle from unnecessary wear, and keep yourself and others safer on the road.
